Joseph's Story

Hi, friends and former Bulldog associates! During the years at Garfield I gradually became more ready to accept friendship and the pleasant and stimulating synergy of the life force that companions make possible. Also, I finally found a way to express and test my intellectual abilities in Jacqui Friedman's public speaking class. Somehow, I had not found much interest in the mathematics, English, and history classes. :-( French class was O.K. but I was not good at learning another language so it was difficult for me to sit in that class. I was sixteen (16) years old when we graduated in Summer '60, but even at that young age I began to learn that I had to be responsible for all the decisions that I had made while at Garfield, including a deeply personal one that caused me the greatest loss of my life. So much of what I became during my adult years and what I continue to be now is a result of the enrichment (both, the good and the bad) of my mind during the three years at Garfield. Fantasy no longer fuels my imagination with what might have been, nor, with what previously had brought hope for what still might be, except in some of my dreams (that part of my psyche that I can't reason with or control). I thank Jacqui Friedman (later, Mrs. Highland, I believe) and all of the other teachers and fellow students who had a helpful and positive impact on me, especially Amos Schwarz, Robert Santos, & Rochelle Levites (later, Mrs. Brink, I believe). It was bad judgement on my part to have previously put so much personal information, and even several current photos, in the "cloud" when I first discovere...Expand for more
d the Classmates site. I got carried away with the emotion of being able to share with you guys. I was such an introvert while at Garfield. I guess as we approached our graduation that took some of the pressure off of me so that I began talking more to classmates in the last couple of days before 18 June when we graduated. Because of alphabetical seating I sat next to Becky Rangel and I remember her saying something to me like "Why didn't you talk like this, before, Joe?! The Classmates site did give me a way to finally open up to you all. However, later, due to security concerns, I have deleted all that personal stuff but we can still get together using the contact info I have placed in the next paragraph. If you wish to have more info about me or share yours with me, you may still snail mail me a note or letter to: PO Box 50305, Irvine CA 92619-0305. You can also send me an e-mail, DIRECT, to my *personal* e-mail address, which is: jsais.cal at gmail . com (of course, you need to push all of that *together* so that there are no spaces & also substitute the usual symbol for the word "at"). I keep a cm+ membership so that if anyone is more comfortable sending a private e-mail to me through the *Classmates e-mail system* you can do that, too. That way provides a way for you to send a private e-mail that can only be viewed by the recipient but does not reveal your personal e-mail address even to the recipient. I hope all of you have come to a personal Peace at this time and have experienced the wonderful depth of unequivocal Love at least once during your life. Live Long and Prosper ! Joe
